LLHS California Scholarship Federation Information

  • The California Scholarship Federation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to recognize and encourage academic achievement and community service among middle and high school students in California. There are approximately 1500 chapters in middle school and high schools throughout the state, and each chapter is comprised of students members who meet eligibility requirements. Each chapter is led by a staff adviser.

Eligible students become members by submitting applications based on their report card grades. Membership is for one semester, and membership drives are held each semester within established periods dictated by the State bylaws.

Conferences are held annually, and student awards recognizing scholastic achievement and community service are presented.

To qualify for CSF, the guidelines below must be followed:

    1. Based on the previous semester grades, applicants must earn a minimum of 10 points from the CSF approved lists. See: LL '24-'25 CSF Approved Course List   (also attached to this packet).

      1. The first 4 points must be from List I.

      2.  The first 7 points (including the four points described above) must be from List I or II.

      3. The remaining points may come from any Lists (I, II, or III).

    2. Applicants may use no more than 5 courses to qualify for CSF membership.

    3. No CSF points are given for physical education, subjects repeated to improve a grade, student assistant, or office assistant positions.

    4. CSF points are granted as follows:

      1. A grade of A = 3 CSF points.

      2. A grade of B = 1 CSF point

One additional point shall be granted for a grade of A or B in an AP or Honors course, up to a maximum of two such points per semester.

    1. A grade of C = 0 points.

    2. A grade of D or F in any course makes a student ineligible for that semester.

    1. Application for membership must be submitted each semester a student is eligible.  Membership Application forms are accepted ONLY during the current registration period. No late or retro-active applications will be accepted.

    2. Requirements for becoming a Life Member (Seal-bearer) are as follows:

      2. One of these semesters must be from grades earned your senior year.   (Note: Grades from 2nd semester senior year can be used as the 4th semester for Life membership, but it may not be possible for those grades to be verified in time for recognition at Senior Awards night or Graduation.)

      3. Freshman year grades do not count toward Life Membership.

    CSF FAQ

What is CSF? California Scholarship Federation is a statewide organization to honor outstanding high school students for their academic achievements.

Do I get a scholarship for being in CSF?  Being in CSF does not guarantee that you will get a monetary scholarship, but membership is something that you can put on your list of awards and activities and those who have met the requirements for Life Membership (Seal-bearer) status will be recognized at Senior Awards night.

Why do we pay membership dues? The CSF state organization charges LLHS membership dues in order to belong to their academic honor society. The dues also cover the cost of awards given to seniors who are Seal-Bearers.

What happens if I miss the membership deadline? The following excerpts were taken from the CSF website, www.csf-cjsf.org: Membership is neither automatic nor compulsory. The By-Laws (Article IV, Section 2) and every chapter’s mandatory Standing Rules (Article III, Section 3) require that the eligible student actually apply for membership, and retroactive membership (after the deadline) is prohibited. Students are responsible for reading school announcements on the weekly Knights enews and responding within the application period.

What is a lifetime member and what kind of awards may I get? The requirements for Life Member (also called “Seal-bearer”) are stated above.  The REQUIRED awards for Life Members are the pin and the embossing of the chapter seal on the diploma.
